Unauthorized use of copyrighted image material

This is how TT follows up on unauthorized image publications in Sweden. TT collaborates with Copyright Agent on unauthorized image publications. When Copyright Agent discovers that images from TT have been published without an agreement, they follow up with a letter/email to the recipient. If you have received such a letter, you may hopefully find answers to your questions here.

Why have you received a letter from Copyright Agent and TT? You have received a letter because we have found one or more copyrighted images published on a website or social media channel for which you are responsible.

Who is Copyright Agent? Copyright Agent is a Danish company that collaborates with many photographers and image agencies to protect their copyright. TT News Agency is one of several Swedish image agencies that have a partnership with them. The initiative initially arose when a group of photographers discovered their images being unlawfully published in various contexts on different websites.

If you believe the image has been correctly published, what should you do? Gather documentation of your purchase of the image and contact Copyright Agent. See contact information above.

I don't believe the image is protected by copyright, and I think it's okay for me to publish the image/images. All image material is protected by copyright, and any publication of copyrighted material requires an agreement with the author/photographer or a representative, such as an image agency. The responsibility for having the necessary rights to publish the image always lies with the person who publishes the material. If you do not have a valid license for publication, it constitutes a copyright infringement, and Copyright Agent will pursue claims for unauthorized image publication on behalf of their clients, including TT News Agency.

Is it permissible to link to articles and images published by other paying customers? Yes, it is allowed to directly link to these websites, but it is not permitted to copy images and use them on your own website or social media channels.

TT News Agency represents a large number of Swedish and international photographers and image agencies and is therefore obligated to ensure that their images are not published incorrectly, and that their moral and commercial copyright is protected and upheld. Copyright Agent acts on behalf of TT News Agency regarding copyright infringement. They have been entrusted with handling all communication and subsequent processes related to any potential copyright infringements.
