World Record Rubik's Cube Mosaic

CubeWorks has set a new Guinness World Record for 'Largest Rubik's Cube Mosaic Ever Created' using 85,794 Rubik's Cubes to recreate the skyline of Macau, China. The Toronto-based art collaborative have worked hard over the past few months with international teams to conceptualize, design and twist each of the 85,794 Rubik's Cubes into a monumental work of art - more than 13 feet high and stretching over 200 feet across. The mural was unveiled on the Macau waterfront, just outside Hong Kong and Guinness World Records were in attendance to formally confirm the record breaking achievement. Cube Works Studio specializes in creating works of art using Rubik's Cubes as their chosen medium. Over the years they have created a veritable gallery of giant Rubik's Cube inspired art, including celebrity portraits: Frank Sinatra, Clint Eastwood, Jimi Hendrix and Marilyn Monroe. They also held previous records for largest Rubik's Cube mosaics: 'The Last Supper' with over 4,000 cubes in 2010, as well as 'The Hand of God', a year later - which utilised more than 12,000 of cubes. The mural will be on display on the Macau waterfront until late February where it will be taken to its permanent home which has yet to be announced.
