Count Lennart Bernadotte, lord of the 'flower island' of Mainau in Germany's warm Lake Constance, died on 21 December 2004 at age 95. The Mainau administration said he had died peacefully surrounded by his family in his island castle. The count, born into the Swedish royal house, inherited the 45 square-kilometre island in 1932 from his father and turned it into a nature and flower paradise of world reknown.
