Nothing was missing from the house but lead detective Marsha Reed soon found out that someone had broken into Susan's house 10 days before the murder and stolen 25 pairs of panties. Forensic technicians also found urine, faeces and semen on the floor and fingerprint on the window frame. Back in 1989 DNA wasn't available to cops focused on the fingerprint - and ended up testing 3,000 sets of prints - none of which matched. Six years pass and there are no new leads - until a plumbing company working on a house find dirty old underwear stashed in a furnace. Tests revealed semen on the dirty underwear matched semen found at Susan Doll's murder scene. A closer look revealed Doug Thames, who was just 16 at the time of the murder, had lived in the house with his brother and a friend. And his fingerprint matched the one found on Susan's window. He was charged with murder - and in 1996 a jury found him guilty and he was sentenced to life in prison.
