Hitchhiker kills grandmother - after arguing wtih her son

Pictured here is: Blood on the stairs of Dorothy Donovan's home Grandmother Dorothy Donovan was found stabbed to death in her own bedroom - just minutes after her son Charles called police to say he had seen a man lurking outside their home. Charles later told police he knew who the killer was - hitchhiker he had picked up earlier in the evening and had fought with. But police didn't believe his story - claiming the hitchhiker would not have had time to get to the house and kill Dorothy before Charles got home. For years Charles was a suspect until cops were finally able to put DNA found at the scene into a nationwide database - and they finally found their killer - Gilbert Cannon - the hitchhiker who Charles had rowed with earlier that night. Cannon plead guilty to first degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison without parole.
