Woman murdered by KFC co-worker gets justice 23 years later

So when she failed to come home from working a late night shift at her local Kentucky Fried Chicken the night before Halloween in 1984, her sisters Kim, Wendy and Trisha were worried. And they had every right to be. A co-worker who had swapped shifts with Robin, just 21, found her the next morning, lying on the floor of the KFC stabbed to death. It appeared to be a burglary gone wrong but there was no sign of forced entry or any struggle. The only evidence was a puzzling piece of foam lying on the floor near RobinÕs body. Police soon realised Robin mustÕve known her killer Ð as she locked the money in the safe before opening the door to them. A co-worker then revealed a former assistant manager called William Marshall, who had recently been fired, was due to stop by the restaurant to return his uniform. Police caught up with Marshall but his girlfriend Yvonne Hargrove gave him a solid alibi. Police had to let him go and the case went cold. It sat on a shelf for 19 years Ð until a new detective got involved. Jim Wallace looked at crime scene photos and quickly realised the foam was almost identical to foam in MarshallÕs boots. It was sent away to the FBI lab for testing but after 19 years scientists couldnÕt confirm if it was the same foam. Detectives tracked Marshall down, he was now a high ranking fire chief who still denied any involvement Ð even though Wallace quickly realised the shoes on his back doorstep were worn down in an indentical way to the boots. Then they got another break Ð MarhsallÕs girlfriend Yvonne had been doing some soul searching Ð and finally came forward to say Marshall had not been with her that night AND he had confessed the murder to her.
