Following a fire at the prison on 27 January 2019 many of the people detained in facility reported they faced numerous days without electricity or heating during some of the coldest days of the year and this lead to weekend protests and the filing of lawsuit by the group called Federal Defenders of New York, on behalf of clients held there.
