She had been shot in the back of the head. Police soon suspected husband David Temple had something to do with the murder but had no physical evidence to tie him to it. There was no weapon, no DNA and no fingerprints at the scene Ð and David, a local teacher, claimed he had been out shopping with the coupleÕs young son at the time of the murder. The case went cold. But after years of piecing circumstantial evidence together, police finally arrested him in 2004. What would follow was a courtroom clash of legal titans, with a hard-charging prosecutor on one side, and a legendary defense attorney on the other. The prosecution was sure David had murdered his wife Ð after discovering he was having an affair with another teacher. He denied it was anything serious but then married the woman just months after the murder. His defense attorney claimed he was innocent and tried to lay the blame on a teen neighbor who had clashed with Belinda before she was killed. A jury didnÕt buy it and took only eight hours to convict David of murder. He was sentenced to life in prison and wonÕt be eligible for parole until 2037. The coupleÕs young son is now being raised by DavidÕs former mistress and now-wife.
