Sarmento de Beiras' Dornier 'Whale' with auxiliary sail, 1927

The Portuguese Major Sarmento Beiras crosses the Atlantic during the night of March 17-18, 1927 with a Dornier 'Whale' seaplane with no stopovers. He left the west African coast and arrived on the island of Fernando Noronha off of the coast of South America.
