FILES-US-ATTACKS-GUANTANAMO-HICKS-TRIAL

(FILES) A TV frame grab of an undated photo taken in Kosovo shows Australian David Hicks who was captured with Osama bin Laden's al-Qaeda troops near Kandahar 12 December 2001. Hicks, the first suspect to stand trial at a new US military tribunal against "enemy combatants," was formally charged 26 March 2007 with supporting terrorism. More than five years since he was captured in Afghanistan, Hicks, 31, appeared at a hearing at the remote Guantanamo Bay US base in Cuba under tight security and chose to defer entering a plea to the charge against him.
