35 DIE IN PIT DISASTER. Thirty-five miners were killed and 20 injured in a firedamp explosion at the Valleyfield Colliery seven miles from Dunfermline, Scotland. The explosion was of great violence and men and women who heard it in nearby villages rushed to the pithead together with doctors, ambulances and rescue squads.
