CHAD-SUDAN-DARFUR-VIOLENCE-REFUGEES

The UNHCR chief toured camps in eastern Chad in the region of Goz Amir, housing some 230,000 Sudanese refugees from the neighboring Darfur region who fled the civil war. Guterres was met by protestors, asking the UNHCR to relocate them to a safer area after nearby villages were attacked 15 December 2006 by Arab riders, who killed five Sudanese refugees and 15 displaced Chadian civilians, according to the Sudanese government.
