Nov. 11, 1962 - Labour attack on Government - following spy case.: Labour's ''Shadow'' Defence Minister - Mr. Patrick Gordon Walker, said in the House of Commons today that there seemed to have been a compulsion by the Admiralty to make William Vassall, the spy now serving 18 years imprisonment - personal assistant to high people in that department. Defence Minister Peter Thorneycroft - in his reply, angrily dismissed some of the 'wild charges' in the case. Present in the House were the First Lord of the Admiralty Lord Carrington and Mr. Thomas Galbraith, Under Secretary of State for Scotland in whose office 38 year old spy Vassall was employed.The House heard how Vassall a homo-sexual, had lived extravagantly above his means.
