Adenauer celebrates 87th birthday

German chancellor Konrad Adenauer (m, with black hat) is received in Palais Schaumburg in Bonn with military honours accompanied by the sounds of a music corps on his 87th birthday on the 5th of January in 1963. Adenauer was first chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany from 1949 to 1963 and at the same time foreign minister from 1951 to 1955. His politics were shaped by social market economy, the unification of Europe and Anti-Communism.
