PALESTINIAN POLICEMAN INSPECTS A DAMAGE TO POLICE STATION IN RAMALLAH

A Palestinian policeman carries a picture of Palestinian President Yasser Arafat as he inspects the damage to a Palestinian police position after an attack by Israeli aircraft in the West Bank city of Ramallah August 10,2001. Israeli jets, described by the Palestinians as F-16s, flattened the police station in the West Bank and tanks levelled a police post in the Gaza Strip in response to the bombing at a West Jerusalem pizza restaurant packed with families. Israeli police also seized the main Palestinian headquarters in and around East Jerusalem on Friday in a campaign to assert control over the city after the Palestinian suicide bombing.
