Nov. 11, 1968 - A print of beer - a notch: Lucky are the inhabitants of Gerolfingen (Franken/Germany)! They do not have to pay their beer, instead of payment, a notch is made in a tally by the landlord. Once a year, probably after a good sale of the harvest or a ''piece'' of cattle, the accounts are settled, each notch means a pint of beer. This customs originates from the Middle Ages and is still practised in our modern days. (Credit Image: © Keystone Pictures USA/ZUMAPRESS.com)
