MIDEAST-CONFLICT-GAZA-STRIKES

Hamas members inspect the destoryed offices of the head of the Hamas government in Gaza, Ismail Haniya, following overnight Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City on December 31, 2008. Israel today mulled a proposed 48-hour truce as world leaders stepped up calls for an end to the violence which has killed since the start of the offensive on December 27, at least 390 Palestinians, according to Gaza medics. Gaza City was hit by fewer air strikes early this morning than on previous nights, but Hamas government buildings came under bombardment once again, witnesses and Hamas sources said.
