SWE-LINDH MEMORIAL-SECURITY

Swedish police seal off the area around the Stockholm City Hall 19 September 2003, ahead of the memorial service for Foreign Minister Anna Lindh. Some 1,300 high-profile guests, among them lots of foreigners, will attend the memorial service for Lindh, just over a week after the popular and charismatic foreign minister died of stab wounds inflicted by an attacker in a department store. Police were putting on the biggest display of force in 17 years for the ceremony, amid scorching criticism that they failed to protect Lindh, who was without a bodyguard when attacked.
