Arnold Palmer, with a grin on his face, center, strides across the 18th green with nothing left to do but tap the ball into the cup for first place in the Los Angeles Open golf tourney, Jan. 8, 1963, Los Angeles, Calif. Palmer had just putted, with the ball stopping inches from the cup. He tapped it in to card a 5 under-par 66 in the final round. The title, which eluded Palmer in seven previous attempts, didnt get away because the 66 on the final day gave him a 72-hole total of 274 and the $9,000 check which goes to the winner. (AP Photo)
