POLICEMAN'S ' BOBBY BEACON ' TALKS ROAD SENSE TO CHILDREN The Children of Farnworth , Lancashire ,are being introduced to an amusing new teacher - named ' Bobby Beacon ' by the Police . Newest aid in teaching road safety ' Bobby ' is a talking traffic beacon invented , and constructed in numbers by Police - constable J . Gardner of Farnworth . With a friendly globular face , Bobby ' can look around and utter wise counsel such as ' Look Left ' , ' Look right ' and ' Now Cross over ' . The talking beacon is worked by electric motors and an amplifier , the live instructor using a throat microphone . ' Bobby Beacon ' is being used in Farnsworth during Pedestrian Crossing Week ( Aril 3 to April 9 ) in which more than a thousand local authorities throughout Britain are campaigning to make people road safety conscious .
