Nov. 11, 1968 - Race Relations Board Press Conference: The Race Relations Act of 1968, which received the Royal Assent of 25th. October, will come into force tomorrow (26th. November). From that date discrimination on grounds of race, colour, ethnic or national origins will be unlawful in the provision of goods, facilities and services to the public in employment and housing. The Race Relations Board exists to secure compliance with the Act and its membership has been increased from three to 12 members (including the Chairman). A Press Conference was held this morning at Treasury Chambers, Great George St - at which the Chairman of the Race Relations Board, Mr. Mark Bonham Carter, outlined the main features of the Act.
