Coniston Water, Lancs: The BLuebird, speedboat of Donald Campbell, sits in a quiet backwater of Coniston Water, September 24th, while her master waits for calm water. Then he will attempt to break his own world water speed record of 239.07 mph. He hopes to reach 250 mph and stave off any American attempt to capture the world record. He has heard of competition from Les Staudacher, a 43 year old Michigan church pew-maker, who has a boat on the drawing boards which he thinks will be the fastest ever. 25th September 1958
