Oct. 21, 1965 - The First Woman of the Order of St. Michael & George London: Dame Nancy Parkinson of the British Council is pictured outside Buckingham Palace today after attending the Investiture where she was made Dame Commander of the Order of the St. Michael and St, George, and thus becomes the first woman to be admitted to the Order. Dame Nancy received the honour for her services to overseas people as Controller of the British Council's Home Division. She created the Council's organisation in Britain which now looks after the welfare of 64,000 overseas students and trainees in this country and assists each year in the programme arrangement for over 11,000 overseas visitors from the educational scientific and cultural world.
