Aug. 08, 1963 - Bus stop jet'' Maiden flight: The new B.A.C. 111, known as the ''Bus Stop Jet'' because it has been designed for short haul work with a very quick turn-around, made its maiden flight from HURN Airport last night. The B.A.C. 111 costs about £875,000 and already 60 of them have been sold straight off the drawing board, half of them to American operators. It will be capable of carrying more than 70 passengers, plus freight at a speed of 550 m.p.h. for journeys of between 150 and 1,000 miles . Photo shows the B.A.C. 111 airborne for the first time.
