CZECH REPUBLIC UZBEK ARREST

Czech President Vaclav Havel, right, meets Uzbek dissident Mukhammat Salikh in Prague on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2001. Salikh, the head of Uzbekistan's opposition Erk Democratic Party who had been granted a political asylum in Norway, spent nearly two weeks in the Czech prison following his arrest on an Interpol warrant after arriving in the Czech capital on the invitation of Prague-based Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty (RFE/RL) on Nov. 28, 2001. Following Havel's probe into the case he was released from the custody on Tuesday, Dec. 11 and Czech authorities ordered him to remain in the country while they decide whether to honor an Uzbek extradition request.
