PLAINS SNOWSTORM

The first snow of the season Wednesday morning Oct. 24, 2001 in Crookston, Minn. made driving hazardous, even on main streets. At daybreak a light snow covered the ground and snow, coupled with strong winds, continued to fall throughout the morning. Up to 10 inches of snow are expected in some parts of the area during the day. A snowstorm piled snowdrifts up to 2 feet high and closed schools Wednesday, and authorities urged people to stay off highways in North Dakota's northern Red River Valley.
