US-HOLOCAUST EXHIBIT1

This 15 September 2003 photo shows a picture of Dawid Tennenbaum, dressed as a girl, displayed in the exhibit "Life in Shadows: Hidden Children and the Holocaust" at the Holocaust Museum, in Washington, DC. The exhibit explores the history of children who went underground during World War II to escape Nazi persecution and destruction. In 1942, eleven-year-old Tennenbaum went into hiding with his mother, settling in the Lvov region as Christians. He disguised himself as a girl and as mentally disabled, which exempted him from attending school and averted his being exposed, keeping up his disguise as a girl for some two years. To support his new identity, he obtained a false birth and baptismal certificate inscribed with the name "Teresa Marja Wieczorkowska." AFP PHOTO/Stephen JAFFE
