Nov. 11, 1968 - First European Canal Barge For Work on the Thames: Meridian, a 1,000-ton European Canal barge will start work soon on the Thames. She is twice the Size of any other barge at present working on the Thames and was built in Holland and has worked on the Rhine and other rivers in Europe. The Meridian has accommodation on board of two families in small flats fore and aft but while working on the Thames there will be only two crew members.
